Barret Miller

On may 18th Mr. Miller can to our school to help us with interpretation, We are doing this week to the grade 4 students at the Rivers Wetland Centre of excellence.  At the start he asked us about what we were concerned about and what we were excited about, and many people said they were concerned about the students paying attention, and most people were excited about being able to work witth the younger students. He helped us to not worry about the students not paying attention, and taught us about some tricks to help the kids with understanding the ideas we are trying to get them to remember the ideas.

After, he had us read through our station a few times so we could get them to know our stations. Then he had us present if to as if he was the grade 4, and during it and after it he gave us some suggestions to make it easier to present it, and to get rid of some of the questions and add some things to some of our games and some examples. One of the examples that he told us to use was a glass jar in a thermometer, and to draw the greenhouse effect on a white board to help them understand it better.

After we went through all of the stations we started to walk down to the wetland. On the way there he pointed out some things to help the kids pay attention. Then when we got there we went to all of the stations, and we went through them with him to help us get some more ideas for games, and questions to ask the child’s to see if they were paying attention. While we were there he also told us that we should have them facing away from the sun and the wind if it is possible.

My favourite part of the day with barret Miller was when we went through the adapt or die station, and he took us around the wetland pointing out a bunch of different things about the adaptation of different animals. I also found it helpful when he came around at the start of the day and gave us some ideas for getting the kids to understand the greenhouse effect. The idea he gave us was to us a glass jar and put a thermometer in the jar and one out side, and if it was sun the temperature in the jar will be higher than out side of the jar.
